after a longer than usual break gamm enterprises is back on black plastic but more important... we got a brand new design! for those who don t know gamm has been delivering dance music of the blacker kind for almost 15 years but always with the same look. basically, a visual facelift was long overdue. but we think you ll feel it as much as we do and it really works beautifully with our musical ideology. so, for the (new) premier release we got an incognito producer that is rumoured to come from a small town in mexico. having finally agreed for a brief skype call he appeared wearing none other than a bright luchador mask and giving one-word answers with a strong mexican accent. no matter how convincing that was we still can t help thinking his name sounds pretty close to another producer that is to put it mildly, pretty hyped at the moment. musically the ep is ranging from percussive carnival disco (carnival in manchester) to brazilian fusion grooves (jazz in italics) and independent disco/funk (dues paid fast). either way you ll definitely find something that will work your party. gamm is back and back with musical vengeance!

back in the days at the west-saxon highlands there was a missile, which marked the starting point. when credit 00 saw the legendary rocket rise on tetris’ final screen, it was the first time he became aware of electronic music at all. since then it actually hasn’t changed that much. he keeps pushing that buttons that belong to the impressive pool of music machines towered up next to his bed. after moving to dresden in 2000 to study fine arts, his passion for synthesizers and drum machines got nurtured through visits of dresden’s club-canalisation. he quickly made himself a name as a dj, who is just doing his own thing and got popular for that reason. as a part of the idealfun-crew he started hosting parties always in the twilight zone between legal and illegal. this led to “robo dance”, dresden’s only and (also for some other reasons) best electro club night featuring guests like dmx krew, luke eargoogle or imatran voima. the track credit made with randy barracuda of imatran voima has probably been created some time after the show. apparently, randy was not in good shape anymore and so “lebensraum” unmistakably bears credit’s hallmarks. for his own music he’s inspired by cannibal movies, number theory and birds. still, his music is not easy to pigeonhole. after all, he loves synth wave, electro, afro, kraut, kosmische, disco, italo, miami bass and other proto stuff – a lot of machine music.

landing straight after 415-pr10, public releases first in a loose series of san francisco-centric compilations, this three-track 12inch is a further exploration of the bay areas sounds and aesthetics, though here its explored via remixes produced by friends from abroad. the a-side is a complete overhaul, reimagining, and extension of anonstops seaside by thee loving hand, tim goldsworthys solo moniker of choice these days. the ex-dfa records co-founder and former member of unkle took the tunes balearic foundation and used it as a bed for what one might mistake as a lost arthur russell cut from the world of echo era. joel wells lent his airy, light, sweet vocals to the track, while darren morris added synth work to bolster tim’s usual production genius. it’s carefree and emotive, the aural equivalent of a big, toothy smile. the flip features a mix thats a whole helluva lot more intense and uptempo, though no less positive than its original. chidas remix of domination is squarer and housier than beziers piece, which was glitzy classic disco dunked in italo, but enough of it remains to be unmistakably a spinoff. fiery and propulsive in the way a gulfstream jet is, its a ball of thunder that will electrify any set, any dance floor.

for nearly a decade, raíz and subversive have distributed their vision of dance music on various labels including historia y violencia, electric deluxe, construct reform, droid recordings and their own imprint vrv. three years into the vrv project, the label heads have decided it is time to expand the roster and showcase artists on a similar plane, producers they know can speak to the sound. the chosen interpreters on this release include drumcell & truncate as cell injection, and silent servant. silent servant remixes raíz’s cored 3 the former sandwell district and current jealous god co-conspirator steps up with a stark composition in which melodic arpeggiation builds over industrial drones and echoing drums. the mix of sound reaches a clear peak, then segues into a calm that’s expertly tooled for mixing. drumcell and truncate remix raíz’s cored 2 droid behavior’s best-known producers take up their cell injection collaboration to hollow out raíz’s “cored 2” for a driving roller with eerie pads and a darker sensibility. subversive remixes raíz’s cored 4 subversive breathes another level of funk into the original, with clanging percussion and a new melodic motif.

cosi002 further documents an emerging, ex-germanic theory of perth dance music, typified by tracks built on techno’s stern compositional logic, but poly-functional and cross-disciplinary, wearing the stripes given to them by this most nonpareil of electronic music ecosystems.
the ep has both dance floor heft and mood-focused flexes. “the hunt” is a solarised, laser-sharpened and hi-hat driven garage/big room hybrid. 8-minute “m is for audio” is a workhorse techno slow burner with all the red-eyed melancholy of greats like “acid eiffel” and “deep burnt”, acid burnt and stinging at the mid-range. conversely, “rube” abounds with percussive warmth and ear-dancing patterns, as does “freshness and convenience”, a bastard union of dusty breaks and a hard funk bassline. the ep ends with ambient cyber walkabout “freetown”, peripatetic, matte-toned and pulsing with vital signs.
